Morning Wood: Matt Dillon

Matt Dillon, looking stylish and hot on the new Men's Health Best Life magazine.
My love affair with Matt dates back to 1980 when I was smitten with him in "Little Darlings" and "My Bodyguard" (I saw that one -- and "Airplane!" -- at the Westwood dollar cinema that summer about eight times each!). A few years later Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert had a "Tom Cruise or Matt Dillon: Who Will Be Around in 20 Years?" type of special on "Sneak Previews" (their pre-"Siskel & Ebert" show). Over the next 10 years, it sure looked like Cruise was the right answer, as his star rose rapidly and Dillon seemed to flounder. But then the '90s rolled around and films like "Drugstore Cowboy" and "To Die For" hinted that there was still something there. Little by little Matt Dillon's star slowly reignited, culminating in last year's Oscar nomination for "Crash" (he was the only redeeming quality to that piece of crap), while Cruise morphed into a midget freak show who stars in really bad movies. Talk about a reversal of fortune ... Next up for Matt, "You, Me and Dupree," a comedy co-starring Owen Wilson and Kate Hudson.

You neglected to mention "Beautiful Girls," in which he has an affair with a married Lauren Holly. Bonus of intermittent salivation over Timothy Hutton! Of course, that was 10 years ago, back when Natalie Portman was a good actress, but whatever.

I've been trying to look for that clip. Please let me know if you ever find that cruise vs. dillon debate. Thanks!
