Our 'Little Miss Sunshine'

Michael and I saw "Little Miss Sunshine" over the weekend. It's the best film I've seen this year -- unbelievably great performance, very clever, very touching and most of all, very funny.

After we sat down I got back up to make one last trip to the bathroom (I refuse to get up during the movie but usually have to pee every five minutes, so this is absolutely mandatory). When I got back Michael was engaged in a conversation with this adorable little woman who reminded me of that old lady from "The Wedding Singer" (she also played Stan's mom one time on "Will & Grace" where Will and Jack took her to a gay bar).

I sat down and asked Michael who his "little friend" was. He looked really perplexed and said the woman had sat down and immediately wanted to know "where his little daughter had gone." Before he could straighten that out she asked him where "his 3D glasses were." Michael was completely thrown off so he said to her, "Which movie are you seeing?" "Little Miss Sunshine" she said with a near-twinkle in her eye, like she couldn't wait for it to start. (At this point he was fairly certain that she'd escaped from a home).
But then a few moments later the lights went down and then previews ended and the Feature Presentation began. Without missing a beat she calmly reached into her bag and pulled out a pair of new-fangled 3D glasses, which she promptly placed on her head. She kept them on for a second or two and then kind of shrugged as if to say to herself, "How silly -- this movie isn't in 3D!" No, Little Miss Sunshine. It isn't. (But your face is.)

I LOVED this movie. I have to go see everything starring Toni Collette, and this was MUCH better than "The Night Listener." You definitely had a more interesting audience experience, though.
