Page 1 Consider (10/17)

  • Cardinal Sin: Hunky rookie Matt Leinart got a second chance to be Arizona's starting quarterback yesterday evening and started off brilliantly, throwing two first-quarter touchdowns. Then somehow the Cardinals let a lead they held all night over the unbeaten Chicago Bears slip away, losing 24-23 in the heartbreaking end. First Matt finds out his ex-girlfriend is pregnant with his baby and now this? Some guys just can't catch a break ... (AP)

  • Another Opinion: Here's what they're saying about the Pet Shop Boys show in Boston. (BH)

  • "Dr." Death: Remember Dean Faiello, the vain cocaine-addict/gay guy who pretended to be a plastic surgeon and when he accidentally killed one of his patients then stashed her body under a concrete slab at his former home in Newark, N.J. -- then went on the lam and tried to refuse extradition from Costa Rica? He pleaded guilty to first-degree assault yesterday in exchange for a 20-year prison sentence. (AP)

  • Nuts About Nuts: It's no secret that CNN ceased being anything close to an actual news organization years ago, but last night's Larry King Live with "JonBenet killer" John Mark Karr has to be an all-time low. How do you interview someone who is completely delusional? What's the benchmark for asking a question -- do you pretend like they're not insane? Do you ask why they thought they murdered someone they'd never met? I imagine Larry's smoker-voice opening question to be something like this: "So John -- tell me. By the way I like 'em young too. Why do you wear your pants so high?" (CNN)

  • Pre-School Puberty: So is this why the grade-school kids on my block are 9-feet tall and have beards and double-DD breasts? (NYT)

  • Checking Out: The best news Chelsea has gotten in years: The Allerton Flophouse Hotel has been sold and will become condos. Although I'm normally not excited about real estate developers taking over another building in the neighborhood, anyone who lives in Chelsea knows that the single room occupancy crowd does not make ideal neighbors. Over the years I've witnessed numerous brawls outside the place -- usually involving a man punching a woman in the face with his fist. I won't miss our friends at the Allerton. (ChelseaNow)

  • Get a Life: Conservative religious and political leaders rallied Sunday in opposition of gay marriage, arguing that their rights to religious expression are being threatened. (Edge)

  • Twist of Fate: A Boy Scouts sailing group that lost free use of a public boat slip because of the Scouts' discriminatory policies has failed to persuade the U.S. Supreme Court to hear its case. The justices on Monday let stand a unanimous California Supreme Court ruling that the city of Berkeley may treat the Berkeley Sea Scouts differently than other nonprofits because the Scouts bar atheists and gays.
