Missionary Position

In this video, clips from the 2003 gay Mormon "coming of age" film "Latter Days" are set to the song "This Could Lead to Something" by Smash. Although I grew up in the nation's second-largest city of Mormons (Mesa, Arizona), and had the hugest crush on a real-life Mormon boy (are you or any of your 10 children reading this, Andre Shields?) I never got around to seeing this one in part because several people told me it was virtually "unwatchable." The scenes in this video look quite, uh, watchable -- and now another friend has come forward to tell me that he loved the film. I guess I might just need to decide for myself.

It's an interesting film with some memorable moments, and we've all seen much worse. Parts of the soundtrack are very good.

Definitely check out this movie...not bad at all...

The best part is when the hot mormons point and laugh at the queen's way too short shorts! After that you can turn it off. :)

Sure, it's not the best gay movie ever, but definitely a good one and worth watching.

I found Latter Days on Youtube in 9 minutes sections. (It's since been removed.)

After watching it I bought the video. That's how much I liked it.

Steve Voss is someone to watch. He could be big, with the main stream, given the right part. He's very good.

Well it's no Star Wars, but it's worth a couple hours.

"Unwatchable"? Far from it. It's got the rough patches typical of most indies, it's a little long, and it veers toward melodrama (not in the good way) toward the end. But it's pretty good, has some humor, and well worth watching.

The movie is utterly stupid but totally charming. And the boys aren't too bad to look at ... especially when they finally roll around naked together. I watched "Latter Days" and "An Affair to Remember" while I was recovering from surgery a couple years ago, and I liked "Latter Days" MUCH better.

I saw this movie after I was on my mission and was caught having sex with one of the other elders on their mission. It tore apart my family and made me lose the person I loved the most, the person I was caught having sex with. The sex I had with him was out of deep love on both our parts. We tried not to give in but sex with love is too difficult not to give in to. I'm sure most people can watch this movie and judge it as just a movie and rip it apart as gay people have a tendancy to do. Having seen it, I can see so much reality in it that it is scary. For someone like me, I've lived it and the hurt is still with me 4 years later. I now realize that I'm gay and can't change. I came to that realization after I got to see this movie. I have not had sex with anyone else since that night I got caught. I will have sex with a man again but he will be the man that I love and that I will spend eternity with. I am still a Mormon but I can see through the hipocracy of some of some points and live my life according to my true beliefs.

If you're a member of the NYC LGBT Center, you can check it out of their film library for a week for free -- if it's in. As the slabber says, you've seen worse (Angora Ranch?)

I liked this movie. Steve Sandvoss is H-O-T.

The acting is spotty, but I really like this movie. It's probably because I grew up in a conservative religious environment (not Mormon), but I pretty much weep every time I see it (the ending gets me every time). And if I'm channel surfing and see that it's on LOGO (which it is, pretty regularly), I'll always stop and watch.

Unwatchable? Get some different friends! :)

While it's not Shakespeare, there's a lot worse ways to spend a couple of hours(like Dante's Cove)

It's a nice 'small' indie production and well worth seeing

the scene that was tough to watch is on the deleted scene section of the DVD. The guy who wrote and directed the movie is mormon and gay. It helps if you know about mormon culture and missionary activities. Yes there are missionary activities that are not correctly depicted. Overall, watch the movie

in France the movie was called « La tentation d'Aaron » - "The Temptation of Aaron."

Not only does it have a different name, it has a different "motel" scene that is not shown in the American release, as well as some others. It is a really sexy and beautiful scene.

It used to be on the video sites and over at GayClique.com. It's been taken down. Sorry.

Needless to say, I like the French version...

It can be a bit hokey as in some scenes with J Bisset but then again I liked Mary Kay Place? But more importantly the guys are so cute.

Wow, what a powerful comment from the gay, mormon guy who posted above. That was truly a beautiful story and I'm so sorry to hear that you didn't at least wind up with the guy. I would love to hear more of the story. Are you okay now? What is your life like?

I agree, get some friends with some humor, joy and romantic bones in their bodies. I really like this movie and put it in the same category as "Trick", "Jeffrey" and "All Over the Guy"- gay indie romances. "Latter Days" can be rented from both Netflix and Blockbuster. (Now about that French airport hotel sex scene - the American version was pretty hot itself, so it's hard to imagine (pun intended).
